My nephew has gotten into rock collecting. He would pick them up anywhere he could, the school play yard, beach, and anywhere he could. His grandparents bought him for Christmas a rock tumbling machine that would take a rough jagged stone and smooth and polish it out.
How many of us are walking around as rough jagged stones? If someone should rub us the wrong way, are they liable to be cut by someone else with their jagged, rough edges?
Then when I started think upon it …… the rock tumbling machine………that uses abrasion by its constant tumbling and water to make the rough rock smooth.
How many of us when we were born again, were still pretty rough in nature, unrefined to our new spiritual nature in Christ?
The water, the water of the word and the abrasion of our flesh and our spiritual state against one another, is a process, that causes the smoothing out of our jagged rough edges.
The renewing of our minds is a must if we don’t want to retain the rough jagged edges of our fallen, old sinful nature.
Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world any longer with its superficial values and customs, but be transformed and progressively changed as you mature spiritually by the renewing of your mind focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes, so that you may prove for yourselves what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect in His plan and purpose for you.
We have been made a new creation in Christ Jesus.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior, he is a new creature reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit; the old things the previous moral and spiritual condition have passed away. Behold, new things have come because spiritual awakening brings a new life.
Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he in behavior—one who manipulates.
John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh conveys no benefit it is of no account. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life providing eternal life.
Let the Word of God change your thinking as you let it tumble off the rough jagged edges, as correct thinking leads to right living in Him.
